Awards, scholarships and recognitions cap the youth legislature’s closing session

The closing joint session of the Washington YMCA Youth Legislature concluded with awards and scholarship announcements recognizing delegates, advisors and delegations.
Faith Garcia, postmaster general, called out pages’ work and named Wyatt Arnold (San Lucamino delegation) as an outstanding page after reporting that pages delivered 1,260 page notes during the session. Kenneth Coe, chief executive lobbyist, presented the outstanding lobbyist award to Charlotte White. Virgil Johnson, editor in chief, recognized outstanding newsroom contributors, including McHenry Miller.
Lieutenant Governor Smaran Molkopoli and others presented awards for outstanding senators and representatives: the outstanding Sherberg senator recognition went to Vincent Lee; the outstanding representative award in the House went to a delegate identified as Lucas; and Eve Starley (Walla Walla delegation) was named outstanding senator. James Rosenzweig presented the Linda Medcalf Distinguished Advisor of the Year Award to Jerry O’Keefe. Nolan Martin announced the Clark delegation as this year’s Outstanding Delegation.
The program also revived the Robert F. Utter scholarship; the board unanimously approved two scholarships this year and awarded them to Charlotte White (Bellevue delegation) and Sarah Ellen House (Spokane delegation).
These recognitions were woven into closing remarks and preceded the formal announcement of election results and a motion to adjourn.
