Washington County supervisors approve agenda, authorize Communications status change and honor 45 years of service

The Washington County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at Orchard Hill on June 2, 2026. Chairperson Jack Seward, Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., led the meeting through routine opening items and recorded the attendance of Supervisors Marcus Fedler, Bob Yoder, Richard Young, and Stan Stoops.
The Board approved the published agenda on a motion by Supervisor Bob Yoder, seconded by Supervisor Stan Stoops; the minutes note that motions were passed unanimously unless otherwise stated. The Board recorded no public comment on agenda items.
Chairperson Seward and County Engineer Jacob Thorius presented a certificate recognizing Secondary Roads employee Mike Bruegge for 45 years of service to Washington County; the Board publicly thanked Bruegge for his long tenure.
On a motion by Chairperson Seward, seconded by Supervisor Stoops, the Board acknowledged and authorized the Chairperson to sign a personnel change request moving Lydia Houston in the Communications department from regular part-time to casual part-time, effective May 27, 2026. The minutes indicate the motion passed.
During department head comments, Washington County Auditor Tamera S. Stewart reminded residents that June 2 was an election day and encouraged citizens to vote at their polling locations. Supervisor Bob Yoder provided an update on regional food-distribution activity by the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP), reporting that through April 2026 HACAP had delivered more than 770,000 pounds of food—recorded in the minutes as equal to 642,496 meals—to roughly 18,000 households across its service region, and supported 63 backpack programs.
The meeting concluded when Supervisor Stan Stoops moved to adjourn, seconded by Supervisor Bob Yoder; the Board adjourned at 9:09 a.m.
