Derby Select Board appoints Recreation Committee and hears committee project priorities

The Derby Select Board unanimously approved appointments to a newly formed Recreation Committee on Jan. 5. Grant Spates moved to appoint Brian Smith, Steve Gendreau, Gwen Bailey-Rowe, Julie Gunn, Ed Barber, Larry Fortin, Steve Carpenter and Brandon Phillips; Brad Shattuck seconded and the motion passed with all five board members voting in favor.
Gwen Bailey-Rowe and Brian Smith updated the board on a Dec. 30 Recreation Committee meeting. The committee discussed multiple priorities: the Derby Green playground, sidewalks, soccer fields, indoor pickleball, a Beach House volleyball court, Fourth of July planning and funding strategies.
