The council voted June 2 to appoint Mr. O'Brien as chair of the Civic Center Advisory Committee, following interviews held earlier in the special meeting. Ballots were collected and the clerk announced that Councilmembers Ferraro, Lewis, Mayor Pro Tem Peristem and Bradley each voted for Mr. O'Brien; the clerk declared the result unanimous.
Earlier in the special session the council interviewed applicant Paul Close, who told the council he has served on the committee for about three years, has lived in Rancho Palos Verdes for approximately 30 years and said he was interested in bringing new ideas and possibly a short rotation as chair. Chair O'Brien, who was reappointed to the committee, spoke about the committee’s vision for the Civic Center campus and recent outreach including a Wayfarers Chapel reception, and expressed optimism about private‑sector interest and behind‑the‑scenes negotiations to advance the project.
In the same motion the council also appointed Eric Nollman as planning commission chair and named chairs for several other advisory bodies (EPC chair James Sprinkle, FACT chair John McAllister, IMAC chair Brian Hague, and Traffic Safety Committee chair John Tai) as part of the staff report; the appointments passed on roll call.
