Bergen County declines 500-foot communications tower plan for Ramapo Reservation, commission members report

Members of the Mahwah Environmental Commission were informed that Bergen County has decided not to pursue construction of a 500-foot communications tower within the Highlands area of the Ramapo Reservation.
Victoria Galow provided the commission with the update. Vice Chair Jack Pfister cited reporting from the Star-Ledger that, in the county’s assessment, “after weighing the potential benefits against the regulatory complexity and the importance of preserving the character of this treasured reservation, the county has determined it is not in the public interest to pursue this proposal further.” Pfister attributed the wording to the Star-Ledger article he referenced.
Commission members recorded the county’s decision during Old Business but took no formal action on the matter at this meeting. The item remains on file as an update to the commission; no permits or appeals were recorded in the minutes.
