Mahwah Environmental Commission approves pool site plan and tenant application; schedules Green Fair and raingarden cleanup

The Township of Mahwah Environmental Commission met on Jan. 28, 2026, and approved several routine items and community events. Members approved a revision to the Jan. 14 minutes and moved through site-plan and tenant-application reviews before adjourning at 7:40 p.m.
Karin LaGreca, Sustainable Jersey consultant, told the commission that a save-the-date for the 2026 Green Fair has been sent to Michelle Paz, letters were mailed to vendors who participated last year, and several vendors have already confirmed. LaGreca also said that once Mahwah is registered as a Clean Community she may use the town’s certificate and application materials for submissions tied to the Mayor’s Wellness Program. LaGreca proposed a raingarden volunteer cleanup and maintenance event in May; Miles Luo agreed to assist or lead the effort and Victoria Galow said she may have a volunteer contact available.
On land-use reviews, the commission approved Docket EPS-304-768 (Neal Sorokin, 14 Skytop Drive) for construction of a new inground pool, but requested clarification or rework regarding a reported 278 cubic yards of pool fill listed in the plans (the commission noted that the item is not described as soil and asked for an explanation of its origin). The motion to approve the site plan was made by Hayden McClure and seconded by Victoria Galow; the minutes record the action as approved with comments.
The commission also reviewed and approved Tenant Application TA #26-0001 (Beacon Sales Acquisition, Inc., 27–33 Franklin Turnpike), noting the site attachment shows a propane tank and a dumpster and asking whether all other on-site materials are non-flammable and non-toxic.
Other business included the receipt of a General Permit application notice from ECS Mid-Atlantic on behalf of CarMax; commission members recorded the correspondence but raised no additional questions. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2026, at 7 p.m. in person and via remote video conference at the Municipal Building, 475 Corporate Drive.
