Elon Sustainability Committee approves minutes, elects leadership and schedules follow-up on solar

The Town of Elon Sustainability Committee approved its March 24, 2026 meeting minutes and elected new leadership during its April 28 meeting at Elon Town Hall.
A motion to approve the March 24 minutes was offered by Adam Shaw, seconded by Kelly Harer and passed unanimously (4-0). Later the committee voted 4-0 to elect Brian Kennedy as chair after a motion by Sam Montgomery and a second from Kelly Harer. A subsequent motion by Harer, seconded by Shaw, passed unanimously (4-0) to elect Dennis Pagano as vice-chair; Pagano had called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m.
The meeting also included substantive presentations and discussion of municipal solar options from Joel Olsen of O2 Energy and Paul Safrit of Southern Energy Management; the committee agreed to add a roof evaluation to a future RFP and asked staff to research financing options including revenue bonds.
Other business: Planning Director Lori Oakley announced Comprehensive Plan kickoff events on April 29 and 30 and reminded the committee that the sustainability stakeholders meeting was scheduled for April 30 at 10:45 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:54 a.m.
