The Fernandina Beach Historic District Commission voted to grant final approval for the landscape improvement and pergola at 502 Broom Street on a staff recommendation.
Mia Sadler, Planner I for the city, told the commission the property owner had provided “vastly more information to describe the form, location, and materials of the landscape improvement,” and that "staff is recommending final approval." Applicant Marty Swales of 502 Broom Street confirmed he purchased a prefabricated design and intends to build the version shown in the submitted plans.
Commission members questioned which pergola design would be built and clarified dimensions and permitting thresholds. The board noted minor discrepancies between plans and the building permit application but said the current submission resolved the earlier concerns. No members of the public rose during the public hearing.
A motion to approve case HCC2025‑005 without conditions passed on a roll call vote.
The commission’s approval makes the design compliant with the city’s comprehensive plan, land development code and historic district guidelines as recorded in the hearing. The applicant may proceed to the building‑permit phase and should confirm the final permit dimensions with the building official.
