Solano supervisors proclaim June Philippine Cultural Month and honor Mare Island mock-trial team

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on June 2, 2026, adopted a resolution recognizing June 2026 as Philippine Cultural Month and presented commendations to the Mare Island Technology Academy mock trial team for achievements during the 2025–26 season.

The clerk read the resolution recognizing Philippine Cultural Month and the board approved it by voice vote. Community leaders from the Filipino Community of Solano County described the organization’s 80‑year history, the festival’s 40th anniversary and invited the public to Vallejo Pista Sanayon at the Mare Island Coal Sheds on June 6.

Annie Frias Ramos, president of the Filipino Community of Solano County, said the group honors Filipino American heritage and highlighted programs including scholarships and intergenerational storytelling. "This anniversary is not only a celebration of the past, but also a tribute to the generation of leaders, volunteers, officers, and members whose dedication…help our organization to what it is today," she said.

The board also read and adopted a resolution recognizing the Mare Island Technology Academy mock trial team for its third consecutive advancement to the California State finals and for individual student honors. Judges and volunteers praised students and coaches for their achievement; Judge Kelly Trujillo and others congratulated the team.

What’s next: The board’s proclamations are ceremonial; the community invited residents to attend the Mare Island festival and school supporters said they will continue scholarship and mentorship work.
