Brian Torgerson of Trust Lands (presenting remotely) updated the council on several land-management actions across the county: conversion of mining claims to mineral leases for possible uranium exploration, a placer-mining lease near the town of Emory, a pipeline easement application to connect gas-field infrastructure, and community outreach plans by the lessee of the Poison Springs solar project.
Torgerson said the mining-claim conversions are intended to allow future exploration and development and that the placer claim near Emory is currently a lease application under review. He also said the Poison Springs lessee is planning local open houses including an event aimed at county stakeholders on June 10 (details to be finalized); the lessee will pursue conditional-use permitting through county planning as required.
County members asked about timing and whether the solar project will proceed; Trust Lands staff said the project team intends to file conditional-use applications to planning and zoning and that proceeding to commission approval depends on planning recommendations. Council members requested that meeting locations and times be published to the county distribution list once finalized.
