The Emery County Public Lands Council voted to endorse a drafted letter urging support for the Bureau of Land Management's proposed sale of the Veil Site to the town of Farrant City.
A council member moved to "endorse the letter and approve the sale of the property from the BLM to Farrant City," and another member seconded the motion. The chair called for a voice vote and multiple members responded in the affirmative; at least one member voiced opposition during the roll-call exchange. The council agreed the letter should proceed to the next procedural step and, if appropriate, be shared with county commissioners.
BLM staff on the call confirmed the public-comment period closed June 15 and said the sale process includes a governor's consistency review that wraps up on June 30; the agency indicated signatures could follow in July if required reviews are complete. Council members were asked to submit any additional written comments before the comment deadline.
The council's action was limited to endorsing the letter; no transfer or final sale was executed by the council. The BLM's published notice and the agency's administrative review process remain the governing steps for any conveyance.
The council adjourned remaining business to follow the normal administrative steps; the council said it would circulate the final letter to affected officials and will revisit the minutes and any related administrative items at a subsequent meeting.
