Liaison updates: BOCC grant window, new café and brewery changes, Heuser II design RFP and concert moves

Greg Waks, the board's liaison to the Board of Supervisors, reported that the Board of County Commissioners grant application period is open through March 30 and that an information session will be held March 9 in the Henderson Room. He also reported that Uma Café has opened in Valley Forge Towers and that Bald Birds Brewery is set to take over Workhorse in the next several months; Greg said the café operator is a township resident.
Greg additionally reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained a green card holder in Upper Merion and that the family is well known in the community; he said many residents have been affected, and no formal board action was recorded on the matter.
Chair Chris Levy raised the possibility of applying for a BCA grant to improve building lighting; the board discussed the idea as a potential future application but took no formal action during the meeting.
Parks & Recreation liaison Paul Salamy reported that an RFP for Heuser II design work has been issued and that new steering committees have been formed for the project. Paul said 'Concerts Under the Stars' marks its 40th year and that larger concerts will move to Heuser Park going forward. He also said that construction on '202' is expected to restart in the next few months and that there are no new updates about tennis/pickleball courts at Walker.
Next steps: The BOCC information session is scheduled for March 9; staff will pursue further details on Heuser II design timelines and steering-committee membership and will report back to the board.
