Parks report: membership up, Feb. 2 rate increase and new 'Free Passholder' program; art-room mural approved

Dennis Rudzinski, reporting for Parks & Recreation, told the Community Center Complex Advisory Board on Jan. 20 that membership stood at 2,430 with 387 weekday visits and 245 weekend visits, all increases from the previous month. He said some members converted monthly payments to annual plans to lock in current rates.
Dennis said rates will rise on Feb. 2, 2026, and that a 5% promotional discount has been extended. He also reported that 15 guest passes were issued with annual memberships and one with a monthly membership; board member Tom Kozuchowski asked staff to compile monthly usage statistics and time-of-day data for guest-pass use.
The board discussed a proposed Free Passholder program. Under the proposal, six passes would be available each year, awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and conditioned on meeting minimum visitation requirements; recipients who fail to meet visitation standards could forfeit the pass. Vice Chair Karen Huller suggested making a program orientation mandatory, and board member Michael Hyman urged narrowing the revocation language so it specifies which visitation metrics and time frames would trigger loss of the pass. The board agreed to finalize the application language at the next meeting.
Senior Center liaison Cindy Eastman reported programs for people 50 and older, including a billiard program and noncompetitive indoor bocce and cornhole on Tuesdays. She noted the first week of membership is free and listed upcoming events: a craft fair and bake sale on Mar. 21, 2026, and Bingo on Mar. 29, 2026.
During public comment, resident Brittany Grala proposed painting a mural in the art room to brighten the space and suggested a mural on an exterior wall and potential use of a BCA grant for supplies. The board unanimously approved the interior art-room mural; discussion of exterior murals and other sites was deferred. The board recorded that minutes were submitted by Melissa Adams.
Next steps: Parks staff will provide guest-pass usage statistics and bring a finalized Free Passholder application back to the board at its next meeting. The approved art-room mural can proceed under terms the board will finalize in follow-up.
