Columbus Lions get board approval to advance 'Give a Book/Take a Book' kiosk in City Park

At its Feb. 10, 2026 meeting, the Columbus Park Board unanimously agreed to allow the Columbus Lions to move forward with plans to install a freestanding "Give a Book/Take a Book" library in Columbus City Park.
Genia Sjerven, representing the Columbus Lions, described the proposed wooden, low-maintenance kiosk and said the group would manage placement and upkeep. Board member Bob Bodene asked that one shelf be sized to accommodate taller books; the board agreed and Sjerven said she would note that change. Steven Ray suggested the kiosk could be co-branded with the Lions and Columbus logos; the board discussed color choices and directed Sjerven to consult with Public Works to finalize location and color so it coordinates with existing park structures such as the dugout and dugout color scheme.
The board expressed unanimous support for the Lions to proceed with the project and did not require further formal action at the Feb. 10 meeting; Sjerven was directed to work with Public Works staff on final placement and design details.
