Franklin County schedules June 17 hearing on potential vacation of Reno Road

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners voted May 27 to schedule a public hearing for June 17, 2026, to consider vacating a short stretch of Reno Road after Public Works reported recurring trespassing and damage to adjacent private property. Commissioner Rod Harris moved to set the hearing and Commissioner Ianne Dickinson seconded; all voted "yes."
Jeff Welton, Public Works Director, told the board the vacation request ‘‘results from recurring difficulties with trespassing and damage to private property along this stretch of road.’’ He identified the segment under consideration as the portion running from the 2961 block to the 2962 block of Reno Road. The hearing will provide an opportunity for property owners and other interested parties to comment before the board takes any final action.
The board also approved the consent agenda, adopting the minutes from the May 20, 2026 meeting after a motion by Commissioner Ianne Dickinson and a second from Commissioner Rod Harris; the consent motion passed with all voting "yes." County Administrator Derek Brown, FCDC Director Paul Bean, and Public Works Director Jeff Welton delivered staff reports later in the meeting; no additional actions were recorded on those reports.
Commissioner Rod Harris moved to adjourn at 8:44 a.m.; Commissioner Donald Stottlemire seconded and the motion carried with all voting "yes." The board will revisit the Reno Road vacation petition after the public hearing on June 17.
