Spencer County confirms judge-executive appointee to Tourism Commission, delays additional tourism bylaws changes

Spencer County Fiscal Court voted on May 18 to confirm Judge Executive Scott Travis’s appointment of Jeff Davis to the Tourism Commission to fill the vacated seat of Steve Conte, term expiring December 2026.
Katherine Scott, listed as the Tourism presenter, attended the meeting and told the Court Tourism was requesting confirmation of Jeff Davis and approval of three additional nominees: Terri Cooper, Amy Riggs and Kurt Reichold. The Judge said he preferred the Tourism Commission amend bylaws first to make clear appointment procedures and that the city and county be coordinated on appointments. Nonetheless the Court approved the Judge’s formal appointment of Jeff Davis (motion by Esq. Stump; second by Esq. Pharris; unanimous voice vote among members present except Esq. Travis who was absent).
Judge Travis told the Court the appointments would be completed after the Tourism Commission finalizes its bylaws and provides the Court with a copy. The Court recorded no additional formal action on the other nominees at the May 18 meeting.
What happens next: Tourism will present bylaws changes at a future meeting and the county and city will coordinate appointments; Jeff Davis will serve for the remainder of the term through December 2026.
