County administrator outlines staffing, fleet proposals, social-services funding and library talks

County Administrator Matt updated the Saline County Board on staffing, procurement and funding matters the board will consider during budget discussions.
Matt said interviews are scheduled for the county's reconfigured community engagement coordinator position (five candidates, including two internal applicants) intended to handle public information and grant writing. On fleet management, the county received four proposals — Enterprise Fleet Management, United Fleet Management, Acme Fleet Solutions and Marshall Motors — that will be reviewed as part of the budget process.
On social-services funding, Matt reported 10 organizations applied for county allocations with total requests "just over $391,000," approximately 40% higher than the previous year's allocation; the social services committee will review applications and make recommendations for the budget. "So, I think the process has gone pretty well," Matt said.
Matt also described recent meetings with library boards about the Central Kansas Library System and a follow-up joint meeting scheduled for July 8 to discuss whether services can be arranged to maintain resources for the city of Gypsum; Commissioner Grievous (as reported by Matt) has indicated she will not support any arrangement that would reduce resources available to Gypsum.
Matt said staff will refine the social-service application process for next year and prepare recommendations to present during budget work sessions.
No formal action was taken during the update; the board will consider recommendations as part of future budget deliberations.
