High school HVAC overhaul prompts relocation of staff convocation to Moore Middle School

Operations staff told the Prince George County School Board on July 15 that a multi-phase, $3.3 million HVAC replacement at Prince George High School is in its third summer of work and on track for substantial completion in August, but that contractor recommendations led staff to move the division convocation to JJ Moore Middle School.
Patrick Barnes described how rooftop units, refurbished air handlers and new ductwork were being installed as part of the project; the third phase began June 3 with a target substantial completion date in mid-August. “We are on target,” Barnes said, but he added that the contractor could not guarantee full comfort for 800–900 people on the originally scheduled convocation date and recommended relocating the event to Moore Middle School to ensure capacity and comfort.
Ignite PG staff, who integrate convocation into a professional-development conference, described logistics for a one-and-a-half-day program at Moore: concurrent sessions, streaming for overflow spaces, and session planning to accommodate staff from bus drivers to administrators. The board accepted the recommendation and thanked operations and curriculum staff for planning the event transition.
Next steps: operations will continue to monitor substantial-completion milestones and coordinate logistics for convocation site services and livestreaming.
