Library board accepts $28,000 county grant, approves seeking federal community project funding for lower-level renovation

The Garden City Public Library Board of Trustees on March 9 authorized the library to enter an intermunicipal agreement with Nassau County to accept a $28,000 grant from Legislator GiuffrE. The Board recorded that the funds will be used to purchase furnishings for the Childrens Room, the periodical room, and a multimedia table for the Carnelia Stewart Room.
Trustee Mary Maguire moved to approve the agreement; Trustee Paul O'Grady seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously. The Board also approved a motion to authorize inclusion of the library in the Village's request for community project funding distributed through Congresswoman Laura Gillen. That request would support a proposed renovation of 5,650 square feet of the library's lower level to add study rooms, improved program space and more room for community meeting.
The motions were passed on the consent calendar with unanimous votes. The Board said the renovation request responds to a documented need for additional study and program space; no dollar amount for the community project request was specified in the minutes.
