Volunteer fire companies report training and calls; Road Master outlines spring work and bids awarded

Volunteer fire company leaders updated supervisors on emergency responses, member training and community events. LPFC Fire Chief Phil Hobel reported three emergency calls in the past month, recent HazMat and wildland firefighter training completions, an applied $7,740 EMS grant from St. Luke’s and a Stop the Bleed class scheduled for May 13. He also promoted the LPFC breakfast fundraiser on April 19. NTFC 2nd Assistant Chief Gary Kuntz reported 45 emergency calls year‑to‑date, training participation including a member taking the PA 130 forestry test, Mod 4 training starts and a newly cleared member, David Rivera.
Road Master Matt Henderson summarized March work: storm tree cleanup, removal of sight‑obstructing dead trees, material deliveries to LCTI for a Smokey the Bear build, dirt‑road hole filling, cold patching, sweeping intersections, shoulder cutting and attendance at flagger training. Anticipated spring work includes finishing road sweeping, continued shoulder cutting and PSATS attendance. Henderson said two trees near the Historical Society building will remain until construction begins.
The board accepted and awarded the lowest highlighted bids for 2026 stone and bituminous materials as presented. A motion to accept the bid tabulation and award the lowest highlighted bids was made by Ronald Jerdon, seconded by Frederick Najarian and carried unanimously.
Chairman Brian C. Dietrich moved that Lynn Township split an estimated $27,000 paving cost for the NW Recreation parking lot with neighboring townships (Heidelberg, Lowhill and Weisenberg); the board approved and directed Matt Henderson to coordinate manpower.
Vice Chairman Frederick Najarian said he will draft a letter regarding pond access for the May meeting.
