Lynn EAC to maintain Purple Martin shelter sites after Game Commission visit

At its April 16 meeting, the Lynn Township Environmental Advisory Council agreed to maintain two habitat-friendly Purple Martin gourd shelters identified with a Game Lands official, while the Board of Supervisors deferred final site selection to the Road Master.
Rob Sayre, an EAC member, reported that he and Kathryn Townsend met with a Game Lands official to discuss the Pennsylvania Game Commission Cavity Nesting program and identified two habitat-friendly sites for free Purple Martin hanging shelters made from gourds. Sayre said the EAC agreed to provide seasonal maintenance for the shelters.
Annie Glenn, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) representative, told the council the BOS did not approve either location; instead, the BOS recommended the Road Master choose a site “based on esthetics and ease of maintenance.” Sayre also noted that Master Gardeners will meet at Ontelaunee on May 2, 2026, to identify and mark invasive plants for removal at locations previously designated by the BOS.
The EAC recorded a related action to establish a Bird Town subcommittee, listing Kathryn Townsend and Rob Sayre as the subcommittee contacts. The initiative is being positioned as a community-maintenance project rather than a BOS-managed installation, pending final site selection by the Road Master.
The council also listed outreach: Gabriel Caprio and Rob Sayre will present conservation and Bird Town information to 64 Cub Scouts at Ontelaunee on April 21, 2026, at 6 p.m.
