The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners approved routine agenda items and a slate of motions at its May 28 meeting in Lake Andes.
Votes and formal actions taken (all motions carried unanimously): the agenda was approved (motion by Commissioner Nick Stotz, second by Vice Chairman Kory Standy); minutes from the May 14 meeting were approved (motion by Standy, second by Stotz); and the bills for May 28, 2026 were approved (motion by Standy, second by Stotz). The total of approved claims on the minutes is $412,641.38.
Land use approvals included: the SURVEY PLAT of Zephier Tract 1 in Goose Lake Township (motion by Chairman Colin Soukup, second by Stotz); the PLAT of Lots 1–7 Nelson Addition in Platte Township (motion by Standy, second by Stotz); and the PLAT of Fairview Ranch Tract 1 in Hamilton Township (motion by Standy, second by Soukup).
Personnel and contracts: the board approved hiring two full‑time employees for the Director of Equalization office (motion by Stotz, second by Standy). The board also approved the 2027 Planning and Development District III contract at a cost of $18,892.00 (motion by Stotz, second by Standy).
Elections funding: on a motion by Standy and second by Stotz the board accepted a HAVA Election Grant for $25,060.60 and approved purchasing election poll pads for $24,790.00.
Executive session: the board entered executive session at 10:34 a.m. under SDCL 1‑25‑2 to discuss personnel with the State's Attorney present; the session ended at 11:13 a.m. with no action recorded.
The board set future meeting dates for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4 and Thursday, June 25 at the courthouse and adjourned at 11:54 a.m. (motion by Standy, second by Soukup).
