Sen. Jarrett Coleman thanked Upper Milford Township volunteers at the April 3 meeting and announced he secured a $1.2 million grant to support Citizens Fire Company’s purchase of a new pumper tanker.
The Board then considered older capital requests for the township’s volunteer fire companies and agreed to notify Lehigh County of two equipment quotes so the county can evaluate funding options. Supervisor John D. Zgura moved to forward the quotes; Supervisor Angela Ashbrook seconded the motion and the board voted in favor.
The quotes presented to the Board were $241,260.39 from Ecco Communications for Vera Cruz Fire Company and $281,445.60 from Motorola Solutions for Western District Fire Company. Chief Kline confirmed the listed inventory and accessories were appropriate, and Chief Bawden said the Ecco units include a two‑year warranty while warranty details for the Motorola quote remain to be confirmed. "The truck radios are always more powerful than the handheld units," Chief Kline said when board members asked about unit strength.
Manager Edward Carter told the Board the County is offering a five‑year, non‑interest loan the township could use to purchase radios; the Board did not decide payment timing at this meeting and said that question will be resolved at a later meeting.
The motion instructed staff to forward the two quotes to Lehigh County; the Board recorded that the motion carried. No formal roll call was taken; the minutes state "all were in favor."
