County outlines $2.3M Hammond Park upgrades and vision for Northshore recreation

Director of Public Services Lars Ewing told the District 3 MAC Alliance that Hammond Park in Nice is slated for about $2.3 million in improvements, including pickleball courts, expanded parking, walking trails and an improved dog park. Ewing said Lucerne Harbor has been dredged and will receive transient boat docks, and that a 600‑acre Klaus Park concept in Clearlake Oaks is moving into the environmental phase with plans for trails, an environmental center and a wildlife refuge.
Supervisor Crandell referenced county involvement with the proposed closure of Scott Dam at Lake Pillsbury but gave no new county action or timeline for that matter. Holly Harris described a MAC vision to position the Northshore as a recreational destination, emphasizing lake access, trails, viewshed protection and cultural experiences.
Presenters encouraged attendees to review handouts at topic tables and said materials would be compiled and posted to the ERTH website. There was no formal board vote or funding authorization recorded during the meeting.
