Public Works update: Bayside to rehab courts, start sewer work and buy refurbished garbage truck

Shane Albers, the Village of Bayside’s director of public works, told trustees on June 19 that the village’s 2025 capital projects will begin this summer and remain on schedule. He said the pickleball and tennis court rehabilitation is slated to start in mid-July and that West Glencoe Place sanitary sewer capacity improvements will begin on July 7.
Albers said crews will continue with the 2025 road and stormwater management work, moving from Glencoe Place to Crocker Place and Ravine Lane, and that the Port Washington Road sidewalk installation is expected to be completed in August. He also reported that panels added as part of the village’s solar expansion at the 621 pond were energized and are operating.
On village equipment, Albers recommended buying a gently used, fully refurbished garbage truck located in California for approximately $100,000, citing a 2025 budgeted replacement estimate of about $200,000. He said the vehicle has been inspected and would require installation of a double-tipper system before entering service in Bayside. Trustee Kavin Tedamrongwanish moved to approve the purchase and Trustee Mike Barth seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The board did not specify an exact delivery date for the truck; Albers indicated the double-tipper installation is the next step before it can be deployed. The capital projects schedule and a financial briefing on the borrowing plan were both noted as items for further discussion at the July meeting.
