DeWitt City Council accepts Granger Waste annual report, casts MML ballots

The DeWitt City Council met Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at City Hall and unanimously voted to receive the 2024 annual report from Granger Waste Services and to cast ballots for two nominees to the Michigan Municipal League (MML) Liability & Property Pool Board of Directors.
Jami Anderson of Granger Waste Services presented the company’s 2024 annual report, reviewed service statistics specific to DeWitt and answered council questions. After the presentation, Councilmember VanDyke moved and Councilmember Whitman seconded a motion to receive and place the report on file; the measure carried by unanimous vote.
Councilmember Landgraf moved and Councilmember Donohue seconded a motion to cast DeWitt’s ballot for Michelle LaVoy, Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Monroe, and Josh Meringa, council member in the City of Grandville, for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026; that motion also carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the agenda (motion by Whitman, second by VanDyke) and approved the Sept. 8, 2025 meeting minutes (motion by Landgraf, second by Donohue), both by unanimous votes. City Administrator Daniel Coss reviewed the administrator’s report included in the packet.
Clerk-Treasurer Sarah Stoltzfus said October utility bills will be mailed Oct. 1 and reminded residents that the tax due date is Sept. 30. Mayor Sue Leeming discussed DDA marketing efforts and upcoming events and noted her appearance at the DeWitt Millennium Garden Club’s 25th-anniversary luncheon. Chief of Police Bryan Curtis reported on steps the department is taking to address local graffiti and noted that Officer Worthington will retire in November; Administrative Assistant Kroeger will attend the LERMA Conference and recently attended the SRMS Conference.
Councilmembers Landgraf and Hunsaker reported on takeaways from the recent MML conference. Councilmember Donohue said community members are enthusiastic about planned pickleball courts and asked about the workgroup studying capital benefit district options.
The council adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
