Brielle council approves routine resolutions, grants and ratifies housing mediation agreement

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Brielle Mayor and Council approved consent agenda items, authorized mosquito aerial spraying with Monmouth County, joined a cooperative purchasing alliance, authorized a recreation grant application for the Curtis House and approved a mediation agreement with Fair Share Housing Center; an executive session for litigation was held.
The Brielle Mayor and Council took a series of votes and approvals at its Jan. 28 meeting.
Consent business: Councilman Shaak introduced multiple consent items under Resolution 26-23; the consent agenda and Resolution 26-31 authorizing payment of bills totaling $587,783.43 passed with votes from Councilmembers Colon, Gianforte, Laufer, Shaak and Visceglia.
Public health and procurement resolutions: The council authorized the Monmouth County Mosquito Control Division to conduct aerial mosquito control operations within borough limits under applicable federal and state regulations and required county notification to local police. The council also authorized participation in the New Jersey Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (CK04) pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-11(5).
Grant authorization: By resolution the council authorized an application to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for a Local Recreation Improvement Grant (approximately $125,000) to rehabilitate the Curtis House community center; signatures of the business administrator and mayor were authorized to execute grant documents.
Fair-housing mediation: The council approved and ratified a Mediation Agreement with Fair Share Housing Center (FSHC) that resolves objections to the borough’s Housing Element and Fair Share Plan and authorized counsel to notify the Program judge and seek a certificate of compliance from the county judge. The resolution (26-35) records that the mayor signed the mediation agreement subject to council approval and that borough professionals recommended the agreement as in the borough’s best interest.
Executive session: The council entered executive session under Resolution 26-34 to discuss litigation between 9:50 p.m. and 10:08 p.m. and returned to the public meeting before adjourning at 10:10 p.m.
