The Plan Commission on May 13 directed zoning staff to draft language amending North Fond du Lac Code 14.05(11)(d)3 to allow a chicken coop on a residential lot alongside accessory structures such as storage sheds and gazebos.
Peter Fetters, zoning administrator, said residents at 457 Southview Drive wrote to request the change because the current code provision limits henhouses where accessory buildings exist. Fetters reported he contacted the City of Oshkosh and the City of Ripon, which permit coops with accessory structures, and that Dyan Benson at the City of Fond du Lac said that city also permits coops with accessory structures. Commissioners voted to direct Fetters to draft amendment language and present it to the Village Board for approval.
The commission approved the directive by motion (Mike Streetar moved; Don Schneider seconded) with a 5-0 vote (Behnke and Livieri excused). Next steps: Fetters will prepare draft ordinance language for Village Board consideration.
