Laketown council approves arena safety upgrades, park security and delegates water engineering for Oldham Farms

Laketown’s Town Council on May 6 approved a set of safety and park upgrades — including tying the rodeo bleachers together and buying security cameras for the park — and delegated authority to proceed with engineering for the Oldham Farms main water line under specified conditions.
Council approved a bid from Delmas Equipment to tie the arena bleachers together and improve spectator safety after a review of outstanding arena repairs. Council Member Kris Hodges moved to approve the Delmas bid and Council Member Kirsten Gash seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Park and pavilion work was also approved: the council authorized up to $3,500 for security cameras, $2,300 in conduit for the proposed new town sign (to be paid from Activity Committee funds), and a $900 timer switch; bug spraying at the park and softball-league equipment purchases were also approved. The council authorized up to $500 to purchase a replacement TV or computer for the council room.
Mayor Brandon Willis said volunteers should not be required to pay for dinner at rodeo events, clarifying how volunteer and rodeo food costs will be covered. "Volunteers should not be required to pay for dinner that evening," Mayor Willis said.
Separately the council delegated authority to the mayor and town clerk to proceed with engineering for the Oldham Farms main loop water line on these conditions: Oldham Farms pays up front, engineering is limited to the main loop line only, and the town retains all engineering plans. Council Member Kirsten Gash moved to delegate that authority under those conditions; CM Denise Johnson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council also discussed plans for a second-source well and agreed to contact Sunrise Engineering if grant funding becomes available to finalize a location.
Next steps: Delmas will proceed with the bleacher work; the clerk will publish updated pavilion and park rental rules and the mayor and clerk will coordinate with Oldham Farms and Sunrise Engineering on water planning if grant funds are awarded.
