Windham committee outlines solar and EV charger plans at three schools

Staff told the committee the district has submitted applications for solar and EV charger installations at CH Barrows, Windham Middle School and Windham High School, following full-board approval in April; projects are likely to be complete in summer 2027 if approved.
At its May 6 meeting, the Windham Board of Education’s School Planning & Design Committee heard from staff about energy-efficiency projects being pursued with Titan Energy and applications submitted to Eversource.
Albie Harris described proposals for CH Barrows STEM Academy including solar panels on carports and an EV charger station application. Windham Middle School is planned to receive new rooftop solar panels and co-generation units and also has an EV charger application in to the utility. The Windham High School campus and the district central office are included in plans for EV charger installations. Mr. Harris said the projects had been approved by the full board at the April meeting and that applications were submitted ahead of a July 1 deadline.
If approved and permitted, the committee was told these projects are most likely to be completed in Summer 2027. Committee members did not raise public-comment items on these projects during the meeting.
Next procedural steps noted by staff include awaiting utility approvals and proceeding with permitting and installation planning once approvals are received.
