Commissioners send Terrell Road property owners a June 15 enforcement response deadline; board reviews CEASe plan and veterans board draft

Scott County Attorney Alex Zimmerman told the Board of Commissioners on May 21 that letters had been sent to property owners on Terrell Road and Big Ox Road asking them to respond by June 15 on whether they intend to abate identified issues. Zimmerman explained that if owners fail to respond, the county may pursue a court order to enforce compliance. He also clarified that no permit had been filed with the county regarding Terrell Road.
During the meeting Ms. Miller reported that CEASe has a comprehensive community plan that must be approved; she said the State is shifting to a three-year calendar cycle and that Youth in Day Reporting participants are beginning lawn services for elderly residents and others with mobility challenges. Attorney Zimmerman presented a draft form to establish a Veterans Board; the commissioners tabled that matter for further review.
The commissioners approved routine business by unanimous recorded votes of the two members present: regular invoices, payroll for May 15, 2026, and the May 6, 2026 regular meeting minutes. Mr. Wakeman requested permission to place a lantern atop the courthouse for a week in honor of America’s 250th Birthday; the board granted permission. Zimmerman also told the board that new legislation requires the county to evaluate housing-affordability barriers in housing developments and that he will circulate an email with next steps.
