Mackinac County commissioners appoint Dennis Vance, approve $3.87 million in bills and $20,000 budget amendment

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Dennis Vance to the county Planning Commission and approved more than $3.8 million in bills during its April 21 meeting at the Annex Boardroom in St. Ignace.
On a motion by Commissioner Austin Kimberling, seconded by Commissioner John Kling, the board voted to appoint Dennis Vance to the Planning Commission. The roll call vote was recorded as yes from Commissioners Kimberling, Kling, Mike Patrick, Daryl Schroeder and Judy St. Louis-Scott.
The board then approved the regular April 21 bills totaling $1,075,737.38 and manual bills dated April 15 totaling $2,791,896.46. Both approvals were moved by Commissioner Austin Kimberling and seconded by Commissioner Judy St. Louis-Scott; roll call votes were unanimous.
Commissioners also adopted budget amendment #26-12, a $20,000 adjustment, on a motion by Commissioner Kimberling and seconded by Commissioner St. Louis-Scott; the vote was unanimous.
In staff reports, Sheriff Ed Wilk said several facility and equipment projects have been completed, including restroom work in the sheriff27s office, repairs at the Animal Shelter and maintenance truck repairs, and that a new ATV trailer was delivered. Wilk asked Commissioner St. Louis-Scott a question about an opioid grant application.
E911 Emergency Manager Bryce Tracy told the board that 40 counties and two cities are under a state flood emergency but that Mackinac County is not; he said Emergency Management continues to monitor dams and infrastructure and that he assisted Cheboygan County27s emergency operations center for several days.
Treasurer Tina Massey presented quarterly reports and said the county recorded 12 foreclosures this year representing $2,751,538.11 in delinquent funds.
Commissioner Austin Kimberling said he has been in contact with Medical Examiner Dr. Carl Hawkins and that Hawkins may have a replacement interested in taking the position upon his retirement. Kimberling also noted the Planning Commission is preparing a letter to townships and cities regarding potential data center development.
There were no public comments. The board adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
