Police chief reports festival coverage plan, fundraising totals and policy updates

Police Chief David Pernice told the council that Corry Police reported raising about $16,000 at a recent golf scramble and Warren Police reported raising $18,000–$20,000; Chief Pernice said he would check with the UC Country Club on local fundraising high-water marks. He said Erie County Detectives agreed to fund overtime and supply 2–3 officers from the Erie County Courthouse to provide additional coverage at the French Creek Festival; he also has asked Corry PSP for additional coverage but had not received a response by the time of the minutes.
Chief Pernice reported he is completing a background check required by Civil Service rules and expects it to be finished by July 5, 2024. He said he has been working with Lexipol to perform policy updates and is removing policies that are not needed; the solicitor’s office must still review and approve changes before they are finalized.
