Pembroke Pines honors Good Samaritan who helped rescue two people after North Perry plane crash

The Pembroke Pines City Commission on June 3 publicly recognized a resident who ran toward danger and helped two women escape a small‑plane crash near North Perry Airport.
Mayor Angelo Castillo introduced Nathan Gansert and recounted the mayor's conversation with Gansert after the May 29 crash. Fire Chief Marcel Rodriguez presented Gansert with the Civilian Special Recognition Award from Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue "in recognition for your remarkable actions during the plane crash of 05/29/2026."
Gansert described driving south on University Drive when he saw the plane losing altitude, then turning back and running to the crash site. "I jumped out of my car and ran over there and helped the other one and just pretty much did what I did best," he said, adding that he called 911, kept the injured passengers calm and stayed until the fire department arrived. Gansert said first responders arrived in about four minutes after his call.
Commissioners and staff praised Gansert and other good Samaritans. Mayor Castillo said the community is grateful for bystanders who act in emergencies and noted the quick response of Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue.
