Council approves paving payment, millings reuse plan and applies county aid to seal coat project

The Union City Borough Council on June 25 authorized payments and material reuse tied to the borough’s 2024 paving program.
Council approved a Cross Paving invoice of $104,740.81, directing $92,130.00 be paid from Liquid Fuels and $12,610.81 from the general fund (motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns). The council also passed a resolution to apply $15,625 of County Aid to the Suit-Kote seal coat project (motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Osborn).
On millings, the council discussed the need to grind milled material prior to reuse. Union Township agreed to accept and grind the material and to track quantities used; a load will be used at Evergreen Cemetery and the council approved providing 2–3 loads to the American Legion ballfield to address driveway problems (motion by Councilor Osborn, seconded by Councilor Joyce).
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that Cross Paving and Suit-Kote work on the 2024 paving projects is completed and that crews will continue catch-basin repairs and mowing; Bentley Run stabilization work is complete pending topsoil and seeding. One street employee was reported out on workers’ compensation.
