Davis County commissioners approved a two-year lease on June 2 for a temporary 1,500-square-foot off-site library location in the North Salt Lake/Bountiful area, branded by staff as the 'TWIG.' Library Director Josh Johnson said the site is intended to take pressure off larger branches while the county completes a remodel of its largest branch.
Johnson said the temporary location will offer a small meeting/quiet space and shared book services, and the lease term is two years because available commercial leases under two years were not readily available. "The project in Bountiful should be completed mid to late next year," Johnson said, and staff are targeting late July to open the temporary site, subject to internet and facility readiness.
Ken Lethem, City Manager for North Salt Lake, thanked county staff and said the location will serve several thousand residents of North Salt Lake and Woods Cross who currently travel further for library services.
The board voted by voice to approve the lease; a second was recorded and the motion carried. Commissioners and staff said they will revisit operations as the permanent remodel progresses and monitor usage of the temporary site.
