Council unanimously approves two supplemental appropriations for schools and road resurfacing

The Montgomery County Council took two unanimous votes June 11 following public hearings.
The council approved supplemental appropriation 24‑89 to the FY2024 capital budget for Montgomery County Public Schools technology modernization. The appropriation totals $1,522,038 (federal funds). The motion to approve was moved by Council Member Lukey and seconded by Council Member Balcom; the chair called the vote and members indicated approval by hand.
Shortly thereafter the council approved a special appropriation to the FY2024 capital budget for Department of Transportation resurfacing of residential rural roads in the amount of $2,000,000 (GO bonds). That motion was also moved and recorded as unanimous.
Process notes: Both items were introduced as public hearings with at least one (the MCPS item) hearing a public speaker (a recent Montgomery Virtual Academy graduate who described impacts of remote learning). The fire and rescue state grant (supplemental appropriation 24‑69, $1,985,810) had a public hearing earlier in the session but no registered speakers; council noted the Public Safety Committee will meet on June 17 and did not take final action on that item during this portion of the session.
Council recorded the two votes as unanimous; individual roll‑call tallies were not read into the record during the session.
