Local municipalities and conservation partners report events, maintenance and staffing needs

Town and conservation representatives provided routine updates at the Turkey River Recreational Corridor meeting on Feb. 3.
Clermont reported plans to begin a Pickleball/Tennis Court project in spring or summer and said budgeting work continues. Chris Wachal reported by email that Elgin is working to restore the secondary well in Scenic Heights and is advertising for someone to mow and trim the cemetery and possibly other park maintenance. Elkader noted the Keystone Chorus Barbershop’s final performance on Feb. 28 at the Elkader Opera House.
Conservation partners announced upcoming events: CCCB will hold a final listening session for Osborne Heritage Days on Feb. 6 (with a virtual wrap-up Feb. 24) and the Clayton County Pheasants Forever banquet on Feb. 7; FCCB announced a timber stand improvement work day on Feb. 17 and that staff are beginning spring/summer preparations. The Motor Motor 5K/10K (Mar. 21) was noted and Hanson asked for volunteers.
Clayton County supervisors reported continuing the budgeting process, permitting activity for a gas station along Highway 13, and discussion of potential new businesses in Elkader including a Casey’s General Store and work by Mobile Track Solutions to build John Deere equipment.
