Utility and Infrastructure Board recommends no-parking signs at Calvary Cemetery, approves $465,032.90 contract for 1st Street reconstruction

The City of Fremont Utility and Infrastructure Board on May 26 unanimously recommended that the City Council approve two separate items: installing “No Parking Anytime” signs at both entrances of Calvary Cemetery on W. 16th Street, and awarding the 1st Street Reconstruction Project to Sawyer Construction Company for $465,032.90.
Cari Hoffart, Fremont Street Superintendent, gave an overview of the Calvary Cemetery signage proposal and recommended adding “No Parking Anytime” signs at both entrances on W. 16th Street to address parking and access concerns. Member Fryklind moved the recommendation to City Council; Member Wilson seconded. The board voted 4-0 to carry the motion.
Anna Allen, City Engineer, presented the 1st Street Reconstruction Project and answered members’ questions about the bid and contract. Member Fryklind moved and Member Bolton seconded a motion recommending that the City Council adopt Resolution 2026-127 and authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with Sawyer Construction Company in the amount of $465,032.90. The motion passed unanimously, 4-0.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved its consent agenda, including minutes from May 12, 2026, and accounts payable through May 26, 2026. Member Bolton moved the consent motion and Member Wilson seconded; the vote was 4-0.
All of the board’s recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration; the board does not itself enact ordinances or contracts. The meeting opened at 4:00 p.m. in the Fremont Municipal Building council chambers and adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
