The Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted Feb. 23 to appoint Jim Traficante as the town’s Emergency Management Director, confirming a recommendation from Town Manager Marc Nelson.
First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis said the appointment follows the town charter, which gives the Town Manager authority to recommend candidates for appointment. Gary Wilcox, president of the Simsbury Fire District, testified in support of Traficante, citing his 38 years of military service, nine deployments and a bachelor’s degree in emergency management. Wilcox said Traficante has served as assistant emergency management director and is well positioned to succeed Mike Berry, who is stepping down on March 1, 2026.
After brief discussion, Diana Yeisley moved to appoint Jim Traficante as Emergency Management Director; Steve Antonio seconded. "This designation shall remain in effect until revised, rescinded, or Mr. Traficante separates from service," the motion said. The vote was unanimous.
The board thanked Mike Berry for his service and noted the appointment is nonpolitical in nature.
