Mayor praises Journey 21 graduates, presents proclamation and reports $1.2M surplus

The mayor reported the city finished the 2025 fiscal year with a $1,200,000 surplus and credited interest earnings and strong permitting activity for the favorable result.
"We have a $1,200,000 surplus from 2025 in our budget," the mayor said, adding that much of the surplus came from interest on reserve funds and higher-than-expected building permit revenue. He also announced he had presented a proclamation to the Oconomowoc Junior Women’s Club, which the mayor said has been active since 1971 and contributed 4,296 volunteer hours in 2025.
An alderman described attending a recent Journey 21 graduation and outlined program requirements, saying graduates complete multiple semesters of coursework, 275 hours of employment-skills classes, more than 140 internship hours across four sites and 90 hours of community volunteer service. The alderman recounted a graduate who secured an internship at an airport, helped resolve a mechanical issue and was subsequently hired by that employer.
Councilors offered brief personal remarks, and one council member noted they are serving temporarily in a ward seat since April 2023 and have been meeting with department heads to get up to speed. The mayor closed the meeting with a personal note recognizing his 25th wedding anniversary and introduced his wife, Melissa, in the audience.
The meeting then moved to adjournment.
