Owosso committee urges Historic District Commission to consider Carnegie Library as contributing property

The Owosso Carnegie Library Property Committee voted May 28 to ask the Historic District Commission to evaluate adding the Carnegie Library to the Downtown Historic District as a stand-alone contributing property.
Vice Chairman Justin Horvath moved that the committee encourage the Historic District Commission to include the library in the district; Piper Brewer seconded the motion and the committee approved it ("Ayes all"). Members said inclusion could strengthen preservation protections and improve prospects for grant funding.
Gary Wilson also suggested the committee consider ways to honor the Woodard family in connection with the library’s preservation. The committee did not set a formal timeline for follow-up; the recommendation will go to the Historic District Commission for its consideration.
The committee’s minutes list the next meeting for June 25, 2026.
