During new business on May 12, Commissioner Aaron Edwards asked whether auxiliary dwelling units (ADUs) should be allowed by right rather than through a conditional-use permit in the Transitional Agricultural (TA-1) district for properties that meet minimum acreage. Commissioners discussed the risk that permitted ADUs could be converted to rental units. The informal consensus among members was to retain ADUs as conditional uses so the commission can impose conditions and ask follow-up questions when particular proposals come forward.
