Wasco County renews river enforcement IGA and delegates limited fee-waiver authority to sheriff

The Wasco County Board of Commissioners approved Amendment #4 to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department IGA for Low Deschutes River law enforcement and delegated limited fee-waiver authority to the sheriff’s office on Feb. 4.
Sheriff Lane Magill told the board Amendment #4 makes no operational changes to county patrol requirements; OPRD’s updated amendment extends dates and updates funding for patrols on the Lower Deschutes River. The board approved the amendment unanimously.
Separately, Sheriff Magill asked the board to delegate discretionary authority to waive certain nondiscretionary administrative fees in limited circumstances—primarily to assist crime victims or indigent residents who require copies of reports or documentation and to correct rare departmental administrative errors. The board approved delegation of authority with a limit of $200 per waiver instance; Sheriff Magill said statutorily mandated fees (for civil processes) are excluded.
Vice Chair Philip L. Brady and Commissioner Jeffrey L. Justesen both seconded and unanimously supported the motions.
