Public Works Director Jorge Zuniga and WWTP Administrative Assistant Martin Martinez reported the failures and said available equipment and parts were insufficient to restore service immediately. To remain compliant with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements that lift stations maintain two operational pumps, the city rented a diesel transfer pump for 30 days as a temporary measure. Repair parts have been ordered at an estimated cost of $11,164.64 to rehabilitate both pumps; city staff plan to complete the repairs in-house to avoid vendor labor charges.
City staff characterized the repairs as an emergency response to prevent overflows and said they will reinstall rehabilitated pumps once repairs are complete. The council received the report as part of the City Manager’s monthly staff update; no council motion or formal vote on repair spending was recorded in the meeting minutes.
