Mahwah’s Health Officer told the Board on March 10 that the department is increasing public-health nursing hours and expanding outreach as part of FIFA 2026 preparedness.
Ms. Cetrulo said recent training has focused on responses to measles outbreaks and anthrax incidents, noting that many countries represented at FIFA have endemic measles. She increased nursing hours proactively and reported that the monthly blood-pressure clinic was moved to 1 p.m.; seniors who attended in February received free COVID/flu test kits, yielding 18 participants. Ms. Esty suggested that local medical providers encourage residents to check measles titers; Ms. Cetrulo said the Health Department will post titer-check information on its Instagram and Facebook pages. Ms. Cetrulo also noted the department’s intent to follow up with school nurses to provide figures on religious vaccine exemptions for Mahwah schoolchildren.
The Board recorded these preparedness and outreach steps in the Health Officer’s report; no new policy or funding decisions were recorded in the minutes beyond staff-hour adjustments and communication plans.
