Board approves veterinarian for rabies clinic, reappoints attorney and OKs temporary septic consulting agreement

The Mahwah Board of Health approved three formal resolutions during its March 10, 2026 meeting.

Resolution 2027-07 appointed a veterinarian to serve at the township free rabies vaccine clinic. Mr. Matysiak moved the motion, Ms. Esty seconded, and the roll call recorded 4 Aye, 3 Absent and 1 Abstain; the motion carried. Resolution 2026-08 reappointed the Board of Health Attorney after a motion by Mr. Matysiak and a second by Dr. DeMaria; roll call was 4 Aye, 3 Absent and the motion carried. Resolution 2029-09 authorized a Temporary Shared Service Agreement for septic consulting with Lincoln Park while a staff member is on medical leave; Mr. Matysiak moved, Dr. DeMaria seconded, roll call 4 Aye, 3 Absent and the motion carried.

Each of the three votes recorded the same board attendance pattern (four members present, three absent). The record does not specify which member recorded the abstention on the veterinarian appointment or the names of individual aye or absent votes. The resolutions as recorded will allow the health department to secure clinical support for the rabies clinic, retain legal counsel for board matters, and bring in temporary septic consulting capacity while the regular staff member is on leave. The temporary septic consulting agreement was discussed earlier in the meeting as necessary to cover duties during Mr. Maas’s medical leave.
