The Emery County Travel Board decided not to renew an annual YESCO billboard contract that currently promotes the John Wesley Powell Museum on Main Street in Green River. The renewal proposal listed an annual cost of $6,630; board members questioned whether an in-town billboard provides sufficient marketing value after two years in place.
Committee member Larry Johansen moved to deny renewal; the motion was seconded by Lacy Hardman and recorded as passed. Cathy Gardner raised the specific concern that because the billboard is already in town its marginal impact on new visitation may be limited. The board took no alternate action to replace the billboard at this meeting.
Next steps: staff will note the denial in contract records and explore alternative marketing placements as needed.
