BLM and Forest Service report multiple spring projects including gate and campground plans

Jaydon, speaking for the Bureau of Land Management, updated the Emery County Trails Committee on several active and planned projects on April 7.
BLM crews installed a new gate at 9 Mile Wash and are finishing a motorcycle dugway near Jesse’s Twist; the agency has initiated NEPA for formal parking areas in the Buckhorn and plans a cattle guard and fencing at the top of Buckhorn to limit off‑road vehicle use. Jaydon said the Wedge Campground planning document is due for publication in May and that Resource Management Plan amendments are scheduled for publication in the same timeframe.
Jaydon also noted the Dinosaur Quarry site has been open for visitation and that construction on a new building will begin at the end of May with completion expected in summer. He proposed sending a BLM representative to the upcoming dirt bike rally to assist with on‑site coordination.
Josh, speaking for the Forest Service, said Bald Mountain, Indian Creek and Willow Lake (Ferron) and the South Side gate are opening about six weeks early, that wildlife gates would open Saturday, and that crews cleared a large rock at Reeder with additional categorical‑exclusion work planned.
Committee members and staff discussed coordination between federal crews and local volunteers for grading, airstrip repairs and campsite cleanups in the coming weeks.
