The interim city attorney told the Fernandina Beach Code Enforcement and Appeals Board on July 3 that the meeting would be their last in the interim role and thanked the board for the opportunity to work with them. The attorney said "it's been a pleasure working with all of you" and introduced Miss Prince as the incoming contact for the board.
Board members used the opportunity to discuss recurring code issues they see in the docket and whether the board could or should relay recommendations to the City Commission. Members debated adding a short preamble to future agendas to clarify the board’s role—what the board hears, what it cannot change, and that it does not initiate cases—so that members of the public better understand the process.
Some members suggested compiling recurring concerns and bringing them to the commission as a united board recommendation; counsel noted that board members also are free to contact their commissioners individually. The board asked staff to gather members’ ideas for the next meeting’s agenda so the group can consider whether to add a formal preamble or guidance statement.
